School Responsibilities

What are the school’s responsibilities in terms of reporting on the progress of an ECT?

Each ECT must have a progress review written for them each term, as well as an end of year assessment at the end of years 1 and 2 of induction. This time scale can vary for part-time teachers. It is the Induction Tutor’s responsibility to pull together these reports and submit them to the Appropriate Body via ECT Manager, the online platform. ECTs must make comments on their progress reviews and they have to be signed off by school principals. Inspiration TSH will provide example materials, training and templates for all reports.

What do we need to ensure is in place for our ECTs? (programme type)

A school which employs ECTs must ensure that they meet the statutory requirements. Schools need to ensure they choose a programme for their ECTs based around the Early Career Framework (ECF). They can choose between the following:

  • Option 1 - Use a DfE-funded training provider and delivery partner, who provide ECF-based training to ECTs and mentors.
  • Option 2 - Deliver their own training using DfE-accredited ECF-based materials and resources.
  • Option 3 - Design and deliver their own 2-year training programme covering every ‘learn that’ and ‘learn how to’ statement in the ECF.

*Inspiration TSH is a delivery partner for the provider-led training route (option 1), so we can provide you with both AB services and training, if desired.

** If you choose not to use a lead provider for your training, you will be subject to a fidelity check by the Appropriate Body, which will incur additional charges.

Further to choosing a programme, you must also ensure that each ECT has a mentor who engages in coaching the ECT on a regular basis.

Your school must have a named Induction Tutor who oversees the induction programme for ECTs, and is responsible for more formal assessment processes and writing ECT’s progress reviews and end of year assessments.

Who is responsible in school for ensuring you name an Appropriate Body?

Your school’s Induction Tutor is responsible for choosing an Appropriate Body to work with.
